It is official! The date has been set, April 17 is the day I pronounce my freedom from volunteerism and start my “study tour”. Apparently the professional term for traveling the world as an unemployed bum is “study tour”. After a lot of huffing and puffing Liz, Stella and I selected a close of service date that would allow for us to travel together. Unfortunately the date we picked is much later than we were hoping for (in a land where unicorns roam free on rainbow highways and baby sloths tuck you into bed every night). Alas, the important thing is we get to travel together.
On the first full day of the conference we got to business. After spending about 20 intense minutes on kayak we were ready to book all of our flights. We had to revise our original trip plan because of the date we selected, but we made it work! And for everyone that gives a hoot here is the plan…
April 18 get the heck out of dodge and make our way to Kenya
April 19 – 20 Hell’s Gate National Park, Kenya (Bicycle safari, yes please!)
April 21 – 24 Istanbul, Turkey
(All of the above with Liz & Stella)
April 24 – May 1 Ukraine (with my AXO sister/college bestie/dirty-hippie soul mate Diana)
May 1 – 8 India (with several of my UG PCV buddies – this is where I meet up with Stella again)
May 8 – 14 South Korea (with Stella and Rachel is meeting us straight off the plane from Japan)
May 14 – 16 San Francisco
May 16 – 21 Chico
May 21 Colorado!
So much planning to do before April 17th, it’s very exciting. Leaving the conference was strange… saying good-bye, not knowing when you’ll see one another again. I’m not worried; the world is a small place!
Now I am back home where I will remain holed up for a while. Hopefully my students return soon. Term I officially starts February 4, but that doesn’t mean anything here. My time with my community is limited so I’m going to resist planning spontaneous in-country trips (as much as I can), so I maximize time with them. I am on my 107th book for my PC service, and I am curious how many more I can add on before I leave! Oh, and I plan to run every day at site, so hopefully I don’t flake on that.
I have no idea when I will write another post, but if you don’t hear anything for a while it is likely that I ignited in the dry-season equatorial heat and my ashes blew away.

My beautiful Angel, You Go Girl. May the Force be with you and the Wind guide you forward in the most sacred manner. I am planning on traveling to Johannesberg with some friends in December. They are from Africa. As well, my sister, Mari and I are planning a trip to Turkey this year, too. Well my Angel traveler, have fun, dream big and spread your love and smiles where ever you go. Humanity needs your beauty and charm.
love you, Grandma Marilyn.
PS, would you believe, it is going to be 26 below zero tonight with a 61 degree below zero wind chill. HELP. I am praying my little RAV4 will endure. I am thinking of purchasing an electric blanket to cover her in.
